Time for week 5 of the NFL Power Rankings. We are now one-quarter of the way through the 2019 NFL season. We have a pretty good feel of who most teams are at this point. Not all, but most.

These power rankings are based on a variety of factors you will see listed below. There is no exact mathematically formula but there is a process based on the importance of criteria, so I am not just picking teams every week based on emotion.

There is obviously subjective input to power rankings so please try not to get too upset and let’s have some fun.

The following is the NFL Power Rankings criteria by importance

  • Wins & Losses
  • Strength of Schedule
  • How good the team currently is regardless of record
  • Health of team (Yes, they may have a good record but they might have lost their starting quarterback for example.
  • Chance at Superbowl (Top 16 must be in playoff race)
  • Franchise history of success

1. New England Patriots

Record: 4-0

The Patriots had their toughest game of the season beating the Bills on the road.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

Record: 4-0

This was a game the Chiefs were very happy to walk our of with a win. Detroit outplayed them in many regards but they found a way to win a tough one on the road.

3. New Orleans Saints

Record: 3-1

Teddy Bridgewater has now lead the Saints to wins over the Seahawks and the Cowboys. Maybe the Vikings made a mistake letting him walk.

4. Los Angeles Rams

Record: 3-1

The Rams put up 40 points and still lost, BY 15.

5. Dallas Cowboys

Record: 3-1

Last week was a terrible performance by the Cowboys offense. Their defense will always give them a chance though.

6. Seattle Seahawks

Record: 3-1

Seattle picked up their third win against the winless Cardinals.

7. Green Bay Packers

Record: 3-1

The Packers lost their first game of the season to the Eagles.

8. Chicago Bears

Record: 3-1

No Mitch Trubisky no problem. The Bears beat the Minnesota Vikings with Chase Daniel at quarterback.

9. San Francisco 49ers

Record: 3-0

The 49ers are coming off a bye week undefeated.

10. Buffalo Bills

Record: 3-1

This team showed some heart putting up a fight against the Patriots losing by 6 points. They didn’t win but they showed the NFL that they are for real.

11. Detroit Lions

Record: 2-1-1

A win against the Chiefs would have been huge for Detroit. They played very well but couldn’t pull it off.

12. Baltimore Ravens

Record: 2-2

The Ravens started the season off hot but they are now 2-2 after letting the Browns score 40 points on them.

Things have not actually been that bad since Cam Newton was injured for the Panthers.

25. Atlanta Falcons

Record: 1-3

The Falcons continue to look poor and lose games.

26. Pittsburgh Steelers

Record: 1-3

Oh how the mighty have fallen. The Steelers started the season in everyone’s top 10.

27. Denver Broncos

Record: 0-4

The Broncos have not looked good. They need to turn it around in a hurry.

28. Arizona Cardinals

Record: 0-3-1

The Cardinals may not be winning but they have looked better than I anticipated.

29. New York Jets

Record: 0-3

The Jets are entering week 5 off of a bye.

30. Cincinnati Bengals
