We are heading into Week 2 of the NFL Power Rankings already. Week 1 delivered some amazing football. We already had a game end in a tie, witnessed the Patriots dominance, saw Mahomes pick up where he left off and experienced an amazing Monday night football game.

The first week gave us some insight on who improved but it is still difficult figuring out who each team is. Expect a lot of movement early on as we identify the teams.

These power ranking are based on a variety of factors you will see listed below. There is no exact mathematically formula but there is a process based on the importance of criteria, so I am not just picking teams every week based on emotion.

There is obviously subjective input to power rankings so please try not to get too upset and let’s have some fun this season.

The following is the NFL Power Rankings criteria by importance

  • Wins & Losses
  • Strength of Schedule
  • How good the team currently is regardless of record
  • Health of team (Yes, they may have a good record but they might have lost their starting quarterback for example.
  • Chance at Superbowl (Top 16 must be in playoff race)
  • Franchise history of success

Previous NFL Power Rankings:

Home | Wk 1 |

1. New England Patriots

Record: 1-0

The reigning Super Bowl champs came out on fire. They clicked on all cylinders destroying the Steelers. Oh, and they get Antonio Brown next week.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

Record: 1-0

There was an early scare with Patrick Mahomes leaving the game with an injury. He came back and the Chiefs handled their business.

3. Los Angeles Rams

Record: 1-0

The Rams survived against the Panthers and look to be a contender early on.

4. New Orleans Saints

Record: 1-0

Monday night football ended in a wild fashion. Drew Brees put the Saints in a position to win the game with a field goal on a late game-winning drive.

5. Minnesota Vikings

Record: 1-0

Very much improved from last season, The Vikings dismantled the Atlanta Falcons in their season opener.

6. Los Angeles Chargers

Record: 1-0

Phillip Rivers and company beat a Colts team that looked pretty good despite no Andrew Luck.

7. Seattle Seahawks

Record: 1-0

The Seahawks played a tough game against the Bengals. They ended up taking it by one point.

8. Philadelphia Eagles

Record: 1-0

Early on in the game, it looked like the Eagles were going to get blown out by the Redskins. They clawed their way back and ended up winning.

9. Dallas Cowboys

Record: 1-0

Dallas looked pretty good against the Giants. Jerry Jones feels this is their year to win the Super Bowl and they look to have all contract issues almost settled.

10. Green Bay Packers

Record: 1-0

I initially said the Packers were the 3rd best team in the NFC North. Well, they already beat the Bears so they have earned being the second-best team in the NFC North for now.

11. Baltimore Ravens

Record: 1-0

Wow, the Ravens and Lamar Jackson were unstoppable. I don’t want to take anything away from them, but the Miami Dolphins looked horrible.

12. Chicago Bears

Record: 0-1

This is not the performance the Chicago Bears were hoping for. This was supposed to be where Mitch Trubisky took a big step forward. That did not happen in week 1.

13. Tennessee Titans

Record: 1-0

This Titans team is better than people give them credit for. They are a gritty team that is going to be in a lot of games. If Mariota can play decent, they are also a playoff team in my opinion.

14. Houston Texans

Record: 0-1

Houston lost to the Saints, but they looked pretty good. After making some trades that were qeustionable, they showed they are still a playoff-caliber team this season.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers

Record: 0-1

I still think the Steelers are a good football team. With that being said they looked awful on Sunday night. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt because they played the Patriots.

16. San Francisco 49ers

Record: 1-0

The 49ers easily beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. This is a team I am excited to find out their true identity.

17. Carolina Panthers

Record: 0-1

The Panthers started slow but put up a solid fight against the Rams. They are a good team that always seems to come up short.

18. Indianapolis Colts

Record: 0-1

Don’t sleep on these Colts. They lost to the Chargers but looked pretty good still.

19. Oakland Raiders

Record: 1-0

A lot of people were surprised the Raiders beat the Broncos. Let’s face it. The Denver Broncos are not what they used to be. The Raiders looked alright though.

20. Atlanta Falcons

Record: 0-1

The Falcons couldn’t get much going against the Vikings. I expect a lot more from them going forward.

21. Denver Broncos

Record: 0-1

The Broncos have a lot of questions and a lot of work to do if they want to be a respected football team this season.

22. Buffalo Bills

Record: 1-0

The Bills stole a win from their rival Jets. The rebuild takes an early step.

23. Cleveland Browns

Record: 0-1

I was right about Cleveland. At least for the first week. This team has a long ways to go and so does Baker Mayfield.

24. Detroit Lions

Record: 0-0-1

The Lions should have won their game against the Cardinals, but they decided to be the Lions. They clearly were the better team.

25. Arizona Cardinals

Record: 0-0-1

A tie against the Arizona Cardinals was a win for them. No one expected them to win this game. Kyler Murray struggled early and showed some heart late in the game.

26. Cincinnati Bengals

Record: 0-1

The Bengals actually didn’t look too bad against the Seahawks. I don’t know who this team is yet. Let’s see how they bounce back from this loss.

27. New York Jets

Record: 0-1

The Jets could be where the Bills are right now but they have a serious kicking problem.

28. Jacksonville Jaguars

Record: 0-1

Well, the Jaguars can’t catch a break. Nick Foles is likely out for the season with a broken collarbone.

29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Record: 0-1

The Buccaneers struggled and do not look like they are going to be in the mix this season.

30. Washington Redskins

Record: 0-1

For a second I thought Case Keenum was going to shock the world. Then reality set in. This is not a good football team.

31. New York Giants

Record: 0-1

Not a lot to say about the Giants. They did exactly what we all thought they would do. Play Eli and lose.

32. Miami Dolphins

Record: 0-1

This is one of the worst professional football teams I have seen. With that being said, they will probably beat the Patriots once this season.
