Josh Gordon is facing suspension from the NFL once again. The New England Patriots took a chance on Gordon earlier this season. That chance looks to be coming to an end.
This was finally the year that Josh Gordon was finally going to put it all together. He appeared clean and focused on his career for the first time in a few seasons. Moving from the Browns to the Patriots was a career-saving move for the 7th year receiver out of Baylor.
Unfortunately, here we are again. Josh Gordon has violated the terms of his NFL reinstatement under the substance abuse policy. He immediately announced that he is stepping away from football so he can address his mental health.
Below is the statement from Josh Gordon.
We have been here before
We have not confirmed the specifics at this point of the suspension and violation. What we do know is that Josh Gordon has been given a lot of opportunities and has burned the Cleveland Browns countless times. That is why they were willing to part with the talented wide receiver for only a 5th round draft pick.
Being that Josh Gordon was in stage 3 of the NFL’s substance-abuse program he was subject to random drug testing. Per the NFL rules, if a player in that stage fails a test they face an indefinite suspension.
It is pretty easy to conclude that Gordon failed a drug test based on the information currently available from the NFL. If true, this might be the end of Josh Gordon in the NFL.
Gordon told Uninterrupted the following earlier in the season in regards to being in stage 3 of the NFL’s substance abuse program.
“If you fail a drug test, you know, this is over, they’re not going to let you keep playing,” Gordon said. “I never really took it serious. I thought I could keep on doing it and getting away with it and getting away with it.”
