The New York Jets are reportedly pursuing Michigan Football coach Jim Harbaugh aggressively. Likewise, they are rumored to be parting ways with head coach Todd Bowles after the season. Harbaugh has maintained his stance that he is staying in Ann Arbor to continue coaching the Michigan Wolverines as a result of the rumors.

Before there was significant interest from NFL teams Harbaugh said the following to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

“This is a choreographed message that comes up at this time every year before signing day. It’s people spreading messages to further their own personal agenda. But I’m on record right here, right now: I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying at Michigan. We have big plans here, and there’s a lot we want to accomplish.”

Harbaugh made his message very clear. Despite his words, here are 5 reasons Jim Harbaugh should leave Michigan to coach the New York Jets.

 Increased paycheck

Michigan currently pays Jim Harbaugh $7 million a year. That is actually right on par with what many NFL head coaches make. Pro Football Talk reported that the Jets are going to give Harbaugh an offer he can’t refuse.

Successful NFL coaching career

Harbaugh boasts a successful NFL head coaching record. In 4 seasons with the San Fransisco 49ers his teams went 44-19-1. Furthermore, they played for Super Bowl XLVII against Jim’s brother John Harbaugh. They ultimately lost before Jim went back to his alma mater Michigan as head football coach.

Not getting past Ohio State

In order to be a top program in the country, Michigan is going to have to beat Ohio State. This is something they have failed to do under Harbaugh. Just being a top team in the big 10 isn’t going to warrant a playoff appearance in a field of four teams.  The NFL has more parity than college football. A few additions and a new coach can be the difference maker.

Young promising quarterback

The Jets have something special in rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. He has shown a lot of promise this season and is putting up fantastic numbers. Last week against the Packers, Darnold became the youngest quarterback in NFL history to throw for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns in a single game. Harbaugh played quarterback himself and is a perfect fit to develop Sam Darnold.

Top defense in the NFL

Believe it or not, the New York Jets have one of the top defenses in the NFL. Also, they rank in the top 10 in more categories than I can count on both hands. As a result, they are in a lot of games. Combine this defense with Sam Darnold, and the Jets are a good option for a head coach looking to get back into the NFL.
