Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, collapsed on the court during a basketball practice session at the University of Southern California (USC), suffering from a cardiac arrest. According to a family representative, the 18-year-old is now out of the intensive care unit and in stable health.
A Frightening Incident
Bronny James, renowned as one of the United States’ most promising young basketball talents, experienced the cardiac arrest incident during a Monday practice. The family spokesperson stated, “Yesterday while practicing, Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff were able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU.”
The incident took place at USC’s Galen Center, where Bronny had chosen to play for the Trojans, the University’s basketball team. Bronny had many college offers as a top-rated high school star before deciding on USC. The news of his breakdown and subsequent hospitalization shocked the basketball world.
A Show of Support and Gratitude
After the news broke, expressions of support flooded in. NFL player Damar Hamlin, who had a similar experience during a game in January, tweeted, “Prayers to Bronny & The James family as well. Here for you guys just like you have been for me my entire process.”
Bronny’s parents, LeBron and Savannah, expressed their gratitude to the USC medical and athletic staff, thanking them for their unwavering dedication to the safety of their athletes. LeBron James, the LA Lakers star and NBA’s all-time leading scorer, has been a staunch supporter of his son’s basketball career and ambitions. He often travels to watch his son play, even during the NBA season. “We always try to support each other in all our endeavors. I’m only as good as my family,” James had said earlier this year.
A Dream Deferred, Not Denied
While Bronny’s immediate priority is to recuperate completely, his ultimate goal remains the same: to follow in his father’s footsteps and play in the NBA. LeBron has expressed his desire to play with his son in the NBA. “My last year will be spent with my son,” he vowed. Wherever Bronny is, I’ll be as well. I would go to any length to spend a year playing with my son. It’s not about the money at that point.”
The basketball community is rallying behind the James family in the hopes that Bronny will recover quickly. The Trojans, who are set to leave on a pre-season tour of Greece and Croatia next week, will miss Bronny’s presence on the court, but they all wish him a swift recovery.
