Edwin Encarnacion has already smacked his first home run for the New York Yankees, who will also get Aaron Judge back in the coming days, but the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers($9) remain the World Series betting favorites.
All three books have the Yankees as the third favorite: FanDuel (+650), PointsBet (+550) and William Hill (+500).
The Dodgers began Wednesday with the best record in baseball at 49-25 (.662) and holding a commanding 10-game lead in the National League West. The Astros sport the best record in the American League, leading the West by 8 1/2 games entering Wednesday with a 48-26 record.
The Yankees (45-27) held a slim 2 1/2-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays, but entered Wednesday riding a four-game winning streak. The addition of Encarnacion via trade from the Seattle Mariners bolstered a lineup that had already helped the Yankees build a plus-78 run differential on the season despite a slew of injuries to key players.
Giancarlo Stanton returned to the lineup Tuesday, and Judge is expected to rejoin the Yankees within the next week as he finishes a rehab assignment.
PointsBet and FanDuel list the Baltimore Orioles at +100,000 along with a few other teams, while William Hill is offering the AL East cellar dwellars at +999,900, with the Miami Marlins, Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals tied for the next highest odds at +500,000.
