Huddersfield Town defender Will Boyle has made a permanent transfer to Sky Bet League Two side Wrexham. The central defender, who graduated from the Huddersfield Town Academy, rejoined the club in 2022 from Cheltenham Town. During the 2022/23 season, Boyle made 18 appearances for the Terriers.
Boyle Seeks Increased Playing Time at Wrexham
Boyle’s return to Huddersfield saw him become a Terriers Together Ambassador, actively participating in community projects beyond his playing commitments. Manager Neil Warnock expressed his admiration for Boyle, stating that he has been a fantastic presence at the club and wished him all the best with his new team.
Having completed the move to Wrexham, Boyle becomes Phil Parkinson’s first signing of the summer window. The left-footed defender is well-known for his successful spell at Cheltenham Town, where he played for over five years and won the League Two title in 2021 alongside Wrexham’s captain Ben Tozer.
Boyle began his career at Huddersfield Town, making his debut in 2015 before gaining valuable experience on loan at Kidderminster Harriers and Macclesfield Town. He also had a loan spell at York City, where he faced Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer. After returning to Huddersfield, Boyle went on loan to York City again before joining Kilmarnock in Scotland.
Following his time in Scotland, Boyle made a significant move to Cheltenham Town, where he played a crucial role in the club’s fight to retain their League Two status. He later helped Cheltenham secure promotion and win the League Two title in 2021. Boyle’s performances earned him a place in the EFL League Two Team of the Season.
After a successful stint at Cheltenham, Boyle returned to Huddersfield Town in 2022 but sought increased playing time, leading to his move to Wrexham. The 27-year-old defender has signed a three-year deal with the League Two newcomers.
Boyle’s departure from Huddersfield Town follows Duane Holmes’s move to Preston North End, highlighting the club’s recent transfer activity. Manager Neil Warnock praised Boyle’s character and contribution to the club, emphasising his status as an Academy graduate.
Huddersfield Town wishes Boyle all the best for his future endeavours and expresses gratitude for his dedication and commitment during both of his periods with the club.
