They’re baaaaaaaaaaaccccckkkkk. No, not Texas. The defending national champions, the Clemson Tigers. Clemson opens its quest to repeat with an early ACC contest. In there way stands a team that brings a completely new look to the table. Georgia Tech’s former head coach Paul Johnson retired this offseason, and the Yellow Jackets took Geoff Collins away from Temple. That means no more triple option. Clemson looks to shake off the rust, while Georgia Tech’s looking to find a new identity with its new coach.

Clemson Tigers to watch

Literally anyone

Why Georgia Tech wins

Well for starters, they don’t. Yes it’s Week 1 and yes anything can happen. Except for it can’t. No one’s expecting Georgia Tech to win this one, but that’s alright. Geoff Collins inherits a team that ran a completely different offense last year, so switching schemes remains a challenge. It’s his first year, though, so give him some time. A Georgia Tech team that doesn’t run the triple option will take some time to get used to watching. Beating Clemson isn’t one of their top priorities.

Why the Clemson Tigers win

Look at the players you should watch. That’s why they’ll win this one. The Clemson Tigers are the reigning national champions, and they return a ton of experience this year. Trevor Lawrence leads the offense, and that’s just the beginning. Travis Etienne, Tee Higgins, and Justyn Ross lead the skill positions, and all three are near the top in there respective spots. It’s honestly tough to see anyone challenging the Tigers in the ACC this year. Even with four new starters needed on the defensive line, it’s tough to see them stumbling. Unless Lawrence gets hurt. Even that might not be enough.

Prediction

Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers are a scary team, and no one really wants a piece of them right now. Clemson’s main goal is to get back to the national championship, and it’s tough to believe Georgia Tech gets in their way. CLEMSON 56 GEORGIA TECH 13
