Texas A&M has a tough road. Not only do they have to worry about overcoming Alabama within their own division, but they must face the team the Tide faces in the playoff every year. Last year, the Clemson Tigers survived a scare from the Aggies, and should expect another tough test this year. Jimbo Fisher knows the Clemson Tigers well, and the Aggies now know what to expect. Will it be enough to pull off a win on the road? It’s tough to say, but we can expect another good game.

Clemson Tigers keys to the game

  • Break Travis Etienne loose
  • Stay in Kellen Mond’s face
  • Tempo

Texas A&M Aggies keys to the game

  • Play tough against the run
  • Make Trevor Lawrence uncomfortable
  • Win the battle in the trenches

Why Clemson wins

Clemson’s the best team in the country until they prove otherwise. Dabo Swinney’s team has talent everywhere, and should a large majority of their matchups. Running the ball was a struggle last year against Texas A&M, so the Clemson Tigers must find a way to get Etienne free. Former Tigers quarterback Kelly Bryant had to save the team last year, but he’s not there to do so again. Trevor Lawrence is more than capable of leading this team, and the talent around him won’t force him to do everything himself. Clemson is the better team, and they win if they prove that early and often.

Why Texas A&M wins

Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies aren’t afraid of the defending national champions. They know how close they were last year to winning this game, and feel like they can pull off the upset on the road. Kellen Mond returns for another year as the starting quarterback, and could be the key in this game. The Aggies have their hands fulls defensively, so Mond and the offense might need to take off early to keep them in the game.

Prediction

There aren’t many outside of College Station, TX that believe the Aggies can win the game. That doesn’t mean they can’t make this a game (or win), but it won’t be easy. There’s a lot of pressure on Mond to produce, and outperforming Trevor Lawrence is a tall task. CLEMSON 31 TEXAS A&M 24
