Welcome to the Week 8 NFL Strength of Schedule rankings. The New England Patriots are still holding down the fort and it’s not even close. They are in last place by multiple points. That is reflected in our Week 8 NFL Power Rankings. Many do not take the strength of a team’s schedule into account. We do here at Champion Insiders.

These rankings are based on the strength of all 32 NFL team’s schedules of all completed games this season. The highest-ranking means the toughest schedule in the NFL so far.

How is the NFL schedule made?

The NFL has worked hard to create as fair a schedule as possible. While this is impossible to accomplish they have some practices in place that keep some consistency in scheduling. The schedules are made two years in advance.

  • Six games against divisional opponents — two games per team, one at home and one on the road.
  • Four games against teams from a division within its conference — two games at home and two on the road.
  • Four games against teams from a division in the other conference— two games at home and two on the road.
  • Two games against teams from the two remaining divisions in its own conference — one game at home and one on the road. Matchups are based on division ranking from the previous season.
