Time for week 6 of the NFL Power Rankings. Some teams are starting to establish themselves as playoff contenders and some are clearly tanking or not contenders at this point.

These power rankings are based on a variety of factors you will see listed below. There is no exact mathematically formula but there is a process based on the importance of criteria, so I am not just picking teams every week based on emotion.

There is obviously subjective input to power rankings so please try not to get too upset and let’s have some fun.

The following is the NFL Power Rankings criteria by importance

  • Wins & Losses
  • Strength of Schedule
  • How good the team currently is regardless of record
  • Health of team (Yes, they may have a good record but they might have lost their starting quarterback for example.
  • Chance at Superbowl (Top 16 must be in playoff race)
  • Recent franchise history of success

1. New England Patriots

Record: 5-0

The Patriots have had the weakest schedule ever, but here they sit undefeated and they are the reigning Super Bowl Champs.

2. New Orleans Saints

Record: 4-1

The Saints have not missed a beat with Teddy Bridgewater taking over for Drew Brees. They are still a Super Bowl contender with him.

3. Seattle Seahawks

Record: 4-1

The Seahawks are flying high after their latest win over the Rams.

4. Kansas City Chiefs

Record: 4-1

Kansas City should have two losses in a row after losing to the Colts and almost losing to the Lions. Are teams starting to figure Mahomes out?

5. Green Bay Packers

Record: 4-1

Aaron Rodgers and company absolutely dismantled the Dallas Cowboys.

6. San Francisco 49ers

Record: 4-0

The 49ers are still undefeated after playing their toughest opponent of the season so far. The problem is that their toughest opponent was the Cleveland Browns.

7. Los Angeles Rams

Record: 3-2

The Rams have been a little off lately. They lost two conference games in a row to the Buccaneers and Seahawks. The 49ers are knocking at their door next.

8. Dallas Cowboys

Record: 3-2

After stating 3-0, the Cowboys have lost their last two games to the Saints and the Packers. They should get back on track this week against the Jets on Sunday.

9. Buffalo Bills

Record: 4-1

These Buffalo Bills continue to win. Their schedule has been weak but at some point, you have to realize if you beat all the bad teams, you are obviously not a bad team yourself. They have a bye then play the Dolphins next.

10. Baltimore Ravens

Record: 3-2

The Ravens struggled a bit but got a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

11. Philadelphia Eagles

Record: 3-2

You are looking at your 1st place team in the NFC East. They have some good wins and some bad losses. This week they play the Vikings in a telling matchup.

12. Chicago Bears

Record: 3-2

The Chicago Bears could not get it done against the Oakland Raiders. Luckily for them, they have a bye this week. They can focus on getting Mitch Trubisky healthy.

13. Minnesota Vikings

Record: 3-2

It has been a roller coaster ride for the Vikings so far this season. They have won, lost, won, lost, won so far this season. Their fans are hoping for some stability.

14. Detroit Lions

Record: 2-1-1

The Lions have the Packers next Monday in a game where they could become the NFC North leader and overall #3 seed in the NFC playoff picture.

15. Houston Texans

Record: 3-2

Houston could make their season with a win over the Chiefs this Sunday.

16. Oakland Raiders

Record: 3-2

We are still figuring out who the Raiders are. I think they are an above-average football team.

17. Indianapolis Colts

Record: 3-2

The Colts got a signature win over the Chiefs to head into Bye week.

18. Carolina Panthers

Record: 3-2

Since losing Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers have gone 3-0.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Record: 2-3

The Buccaneers are not a bad team. They sit at 2-3 with wins over the Panthers and Rams. They lost to the undefeated 49ers, Giants by 1 point, and Saints by 7.

20. Tennessee Titans

Record: 2-3

The Bills beat the Titans by 7. They will look to get on track this week against Denver.

21. Cleveland Browns

Record: 2-3

Baker Mayfield and company got embarrassed by the San Francisco 49ers.

22. Jacksonville Jaguars

Record: 2-3

The Gardner Minshew era cooled down a bit after the Jaguars lost to the Panthers.

23. Los Angeles Chargers

Record: 2-3

The Chargers look to get to .500 with a game against the Steelers Sunday.

24. New York Giants

Record: 2-3

The Giants lost to the Vikings but looked alright in some areas.

25. Arizona Cardinals

Record: 1-3-1

Unfortunately for the Cardinals they are just good enough to not compete for a top 5 pick right now.

26. Denver Broncos

Record: 1-4

The Broncos got a much-needed victory. Time to kick it in drive.

27. Atlanta Falcons

Record: 1-4

The Falcons lost their third straight game to the Texans.

28. Pittsburgh Steelers

Record: 1-4

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The Steelers started the season in everyone’s top 10.

29. New York Jets

Record: 0-4

The Jets are not a good football team right now.

30. Cincinnati Bengals

Record: 0-5

The Bengals are just bad right now.

31. Washington Redskins

Record: 0-5

The Redskins are making a push for the worst team in the NFL.

32. Miami Dolphins

Record: 0-4

If there are free agents in your fantasy league that play the Dolphins, pick them up.
