A league source in the NBA reported LeBron James will be day to day with his groin strain. This report comes after the MRI results and speculation that James was going to miss several games at a minimum.

This is awesome news for Lakers fans. They are coming off their biggest win of the season. On Christmas day the Lakers beat down the Golden State Warriors. James exited this game in the 3rd quarter but gave his young core enough steam to hold off. He finished the night with 17 points 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Solid night on only 21 minutes played before leaving with a groin injury.

Not a serious groin injury for LeBron James

While this is not a serious injury for LeBron James, it gives the young players in Los Angeles a chance to step up. Even if James returns to the lineup immediately, they will decrease his minutes. This will test the depth of the Lakers. Their depth is already one of their advantages over a Warriors team lacking depth.

Three players on the Lakers bench went into double figures last night. They were Rajon Rondo with 15 points, Lance Stephenson with 11, and Josh Hart with 12. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was close scoring 9 points.

The other starters for the Lakers stepped up when LeBron James left the game. Even when the Warriors brought it within two points, they slammed the door shut. Kyle Kuzma scored 19 points, Brandon Ingram 14, Ivica Zubac 18, and Lonzo Ball 6. While Ball didn’t score a lot of points, he got in Steph Curry’s head and showed he can handle the best.

Who is Ivica Zubac?

The Lakers uncovered something special in Ivica Zubac. He is a 7’1″21-year-old Center, taken with the 32nd pick during the 2016 NBA Draft.

Zubac is showing the world he deserves a bigger role. He is currently filling in for Javale McGee who’s out with a respiratory infection.  During the last 3 games, Zubac has dropped 18 & 11, 19 & 4, and 16 & 11.

The Lakers currently sit in 4th place in the Western Conference standings. Having LeBron James day to day is the best news they could have hoped for.
